Weddings, senior portraits, family sessions, and even landscapes are all beautiful and special. Every time I’m able to capture a moment for someone, it’s important to me, and something I don’t take lightly, knowing that moment will last a lifetime through photographs.
But, some of those captured moments stick out a bit more.
Several weeks ago, I was able to be there for an adoption event also known as Gotcha Day! It’s always wonderful to be able to share special moments with friends, so I was excited to be there, regardless. But, Kady and Bugs asked me to capture moments of this incredibly special day, and I was honored.
In light of COVID, the event was held via Zoom, with a judge on the other side of the screen. But, that meant Kady and Bugs’ family were right alongside them in their home, creating a beautiful, intimate, comfortable environment for everyone. This couple has been fostering their three children for quite some time, and everyone knows the adoption process is long, hard, and often overwhelming. So, to see the emotions running high throughout the whole process was almost just as overwhelming!
To see the love this entire family has for the children is beyond heartwarming. Kady’s words to the judge showed just how much of a loving mother she already was, even before the adoption was finalized, and the support from the family made it easy to see that these kids will be surrounded by love throughout their lives.
The adoption was granted, of course, and the family became officially “complete!”
People tend to hire photographers for celebrations and major life events. But, this was truly a unique experience - the completion of a family. It’s something I’ll never forget, and I’m so grateful that family allowed me to capture one of the most important days of their lives.
