St. Louis Family Vacation to Harbor Country
If we’ve learned anything from 2020, it should be to expect the unexpected. Unfortunately, a lot of “unexpected” things this year haven’t been so great. So, this photo shoot was a welcomed reminder that some unexpected things can still be absolutely fantastic, beautiful, and inspiring.
This wonderful St. Louis family had made their way up to the Harbor Country area for the first time, proving once again that there is no wrong time to visit this little corner of Michigan!
It’s always exciting to work with a new family, but for a while we weren’t sure if the shoot was going to work out. The forecast was calling for rain all day, and there was certainly plenty of it! But, we somehow managed to catch a break in the rain, and the aftermath of it gave us a beautiful backdrop for playing on the beach. We even got a rainbow out of it, so the whole setting felt absolutely perfect.
The kids had fun playing with a kite, running along the sand, and embracing the way the weather changes and causes so much beauty here in Harbor Country.
In the end, everyone had a great time. That’s more important than ever, thanks to the impact of this pandemic. The wonderful mother in this shoot informed me that she’d been in “stay home” mode for so long - she was determined for this shoot to happen! It’s a nice change of pace in these uncertain times to dress up, do your hair/makeup, and get the family looking great so you can find a moment of joy and celebration. That’s exactly what this family did, and it turned out perfectly.

With that being said, there is never a bad time to celebrate the small stuff. If this year has gotten you down, or you feel like you’ve been stuck at home wearing your pajamas for too long, getting the family together for a photo session can be a great way to feel a sense of normalcy, even in dark or scary times. Just like we all learned from this shoot - there might be a rainbow hiding just behind the clouds!
